Coordinator welcome
Bouzhoo! Bouzhoo!
I am Patricia D. McGuire and I am the coordinator for the new Aboriginal Canadian Relations Certificate program.
My goal in the work that I have chosen to do is to be consistent in how I approach the creation of respectful frameworks for the inclusion of Anishinaabe knowledge(s) in broader academic, social and political contexts.
In Canada, Indigenous societies and scholars are in a continual process of restoration and the reclaiming of our knowledge(s). A critique of colonialism forms the basis of this as does examining relationships between Aboriginal peoples and Canadians.

This is an exciting time of change and partnership building between Aboriginal peoples and Canadian society, as we forge new relationships of respect and responsibility.
Aboriginal organizations are growing, as both reserve and urban communities develop the political and social capacity for self government. Non Aboriginal organizations are also realizing the need to have qualified workers who can understand and negotiate with their Aboriginal clients and partners.
As a result, there is a huge demand for workers with the knowledge and skills to understand the aspirations of Aboriginal peoples and communities and to negotiate and explore relationships and ways to work together.
Whether you are interested in social service programs, law and security, mining or environmental careers, you will likely find yourself working with and for Aboriginal peoples. Being knowlegeable about the historic and contemporary issues will give you a competitive advantage in the workplace.
There are many courses to choose from and course delivery is flexible allowing you to complete the certificate as part of your electives, or part time or full time.
Join us in this exciting partnership and learning journey.
