Disability Services
At the Learning Centre, we provide individual assistance and support for students who have disabilities that could affect their academic performance. Services and accommodations emphasize personal independence and responsibility and provide a fair and equal opportunity for success without compromising the academic integrity of the course or program.
The needs of each student are unique; therefore, individualized accommodations are based on documentation provided by a recognized professional.
Our qualified staff can:
- provide information about the identification process if you suspect you have a disability
- work with you to develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP) listing the accommodations for which you are eligible
- help you develop strategies for success
- provide ongoing monitoring and support
- help you access alternate format texts and resources
- teach you how to use the latest assistive technology
- help you access the Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) to assist with disability related purchases
- set up test accommodations and note takers
It is important to recognize that provision of services is a shared responsibility between students, faculty, administration, and the Learning Centre. This relationship is based on respect of individual rights and the dignity of the individual, and the College community's shared commitment to an open, supportive learning environment.
If you have a disability, we recommend that you contact us as early as possible after acceptance to a course or program.
Click the following links for a step-by-step guide for accessing our services and to learn more about your transition to college.
The Learning Centre also provides disability awareness training to College personnel and serves as a community resource for information about disabilities and assistive technology.
