The Motive Power Techniques - Automotive program affords the student an excellent opportunity to participate in a program that will prepare them to choose a career in the Automotive Field. Although this program is geared towards a career in Auto Mechanics, our graduates have found employment in many fields related to the trade.
Our graduates have found permanent employment in industries related to forestry, construction, mining, agriculture, transportation, government, automotive dealerships, service stations, specialty shops and virtually any business or industry that employs mechanics. Check out the College Graduate Employment Report. Other graduates start their own business or find employment in sales, parts, training, and management. Our graduates have been well received in virtually every type of industry in northwestern Ontario.
Hands-on, real work experience is an integral component of the program. The support, technical and academic studies provide students with an opportunity to cope with rapidly changing technology. Students are involved in maintaining and repairing various automotive systems such as electrical/electronics, fuels, brakes, gear trains, steering and suspensions. The program conforms to and parallels industrial practices and standards equipping graduates with the skills to meet the demands of today's job market and the challenges of tomorrow.
Graduates of these programs may qualify for exemption from one or more in-college apprentice training sessions. They may also qualify for a reduction in the duration of apprenticeship in a number of related trades.
Philip Bailey,
Program Coordinator, Motive Power Techniques - Automotive
