Gearing Up Motorcycle Training Program

Since its inception in 1974, the Canada Safety Council "Gearing Up Motorcycle Training Course" has gained world-wide recognition as the finest rider training course anywhere in the world.

This course, designed to make motorcycle riding a safe and enjoyable experience, is taught by our certified, professional instructors.

Confederation College is proud to bring you this course again in 2009. Courses operate on scheduled dates, rain or shine so students are required to have proper gear (see below).

Our Services

Confederation College provides an excellent off-road paved facility for training purposes. The college supplies a motorcycle for you to train on.

All sessions cover a variety of theory and practical applications.

Topics will include: defensive riding, slow speed maneuvers, acceleration and deceleration, push steering, emergency braking and much more.

At the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to perform the Ministry of Transportation road test for their M2 licence.

Participants:

  • Must have their M1 Learner's Permit or M licence (as a refresher) to participate in the course. Testing for M2 licence is the final component of the program. The ministry will issue the M2 to the successful student upon presentation of documentation at their local Driver Examination Centre.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Must obtain a certified helmet
  • Must provide a long sleeved jacket, gloves, heavy weight pants (leather preferred but denim acceptable), above ankle boots (NO RUNNING SHOES)
  • Should have appropriate eye protection; sun glasses, protective glasses or visor
  • Should bring rain gear as the weather demands, since the course operates rain or shine
  • Should possess the skills required to ride a pedal bike

For Safety Reasons:

Participants not wearing the appropriate equipment will not be permitted to ride and will be withdrawn from the course. You will not be entitled to a refund of fees if you are withdrawn for this reason.

Note: Many insurance companies reduce their premiums for riders who have taken the Gearing Up program. Ask your insurance company.

Refunds:

Full fees minus a $15.00 administration charge will be refunded only if a written request to withdraw is received in the Registrar's office the Monday before the scheduled course.

NOTE: Please ensure that you are registered in your chosen dates and course reference number (CRN). Course sections are non-transferable.
