Career Exploration
Career exploration involves helping people to make decisions about their future, such as:
- High school students unsure of what to do next
- Mature individuals who have been in the workforce and are considering a change for any number of reasons
- College students who are considering a change in their program of study
The counselling department utilizes a number of interest, value, personality and aptitude inventories which help in career exploration.
Academic Advisement
Academic advisement involves helping students to be more successful in school. This can involve helping students in the following areas:
- Study skills
- Time management
- Stress management
- Test preparation
- Essay preparation
- Learning styles
- Tutoring
Academic advisement also involves helping students to select specific courses and programs and to develop plans to help a student achieve their potential in school.
Personal Counselling
The counselling department provides a safe, confidential place for students to get help and support in the following areas:
- Stress
- Crisis situations
- Mental Health issues
- Depression or anxiety
- Money problems
- Interpersonal conflicts
- and more
Personal counselling is provided by qualified, experienced counsellors and may involve referrals to other college services or community resources.
E-Counselling
E-Counselling at Confederation College is an new innovative approach to counselling designed for students, potential students, or other clients who seek an alternative to traditional counselling methods. This service is open to all Confederation College students attending full-time or part-time, prospective Confederation College students, as well as the general population in Thunder Bay Area.
Mental Health Resources
Counselling Services provides mental health services and assessments to Confederation College students. In addition to the direct support provided to students, Counselling Services also makes referrals to community agencies to best meet the needs of students. Many of these community agencies are listed on the Community Resources page.
