Alpha Court

(623-8200) - Offers the following services:

  • Community Mental Health Services - Provides goal oriented individualized support, advocacy and outreach to adults who have a serious mental illness.
  • Ooshke Bemahdesewin Mental Health Program - Provides culturally appropriate mental health services to aboriginal adults.
  • Supportive Housing - Provides permanent housing with support services to persons with a psychiatric disability.
Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay

(345-9556) - Provides public education, information and support for persons with Alzheimer disease and their family and professional caregivers.

Beendigen

(622-1121) - An independent Native Family Healing Agency whose vision is to provide safety and shelter to Aboriginal women and children experiencing family violence and to facilitate the cycle of healing through the delivery of culturally appropriate programs and services to individuals and families.

  • Crisis Line (622-5101) - Providing 24 hour crisis intervention services
  • Crisis Home - Provides emergency shelter and support to Native women and children from family violence situations
  • Wakaigin Housing - Offers 26 transitional permanent housing units
  • Healing Our Own - Counselling on an individual basis and outreach services
  • Community Action Program for Children - Provides skill teaching, ongoing support and education as a means to assist families in the healing process.
  • Pre/Post Natal Nutrition Program - Develops nutritional health of Aboriginal mothers and their babies up to six months of age.
Brain Injury Services of Northern Ontario (BISNO)

(345-1188) - Provides rehabilitation/support services for individuals who have an acquired brain injury.

  • Transitional Learning Centre - Operates a six-bed transitional learning centre including two onsite apartments where cognitive therapy, daily living skills and community reintegration are facilitated
  • Day Treatment Centre - Provides adaptive life skills training
  • Case Management Services - Are available to individuals with access to third-party funding. Services include identification of rehabilitation needs, development and coordination of rehabilitation service delivery, evaluation and progress reporting.
  • Support Groups B.I.G. (Brain Injury Group) - For brain injury survivors and a Family Support Group.
Canadian Mental Health Association

(345-5564) - Offers the following services:

  • The New Foundations Clubhouse (345-4817) - Provides opportunities for the psychiatrically disabled to enhance their mental health and live to their fullest potential through supported activities that include a work-ordered day program, supported employment, supported housing and social recreation.

  • The Rehabilitation Action Program RAP - Works in partnership to provide meaningful social experiences that foster community inclusion. Individualized social support services are offered to persons with a serious mental illness. Opportunities include: a match with a community support volunteer, personal goal planning, social support groups, and leisure activities. Community support volunteers receive approximately 12 hours of training.

  • The Public Education Program - Promotes community awareness of mental health issues and healthier lifestyles. Workshops include:

    • Stress Management

    • Suicide Intervention

    • Depression in the Workplace

    • Mental Illness Awareness

    Other activities include:

    • Interlink Choir

    • Inter-generational program of seniors and students

  • Thunder Bay Crisis Response Service (346-8282) - Is a community-based crisis support program for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. Services include:

    • Crisis Response telephone line 24 hours a day, seven days a week

    • 12 hour mobile response team from 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

  • Homelessness Initiative Project Phase 2 (HIP-2) (345-4818) - Assists individuals to secure a safe, high standard and affordable housing for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Habitat (Salvation Army)

(345-3772) - Provides supportive housing for a variety of disabled adults who wish to develop skills that will enable them to move on to independent living.

Lakehead University Psychology Clinic

(343-8441) - Psychological assessment and treatment for individuals of all ages, couples, families, and groups for learning, behavioral, emotional, relationship, and women's issues. Services by registered clinical psychologists, Doctoral and Masters interns. Services the community and University.

People Advocating for Change Through Empowerment (PACE)

(343-4760) - A consumer and family organization whose goal is to improve the quality of life of consumer/survivors by working to remove the stigma, myths, prejudices, and misconceptions associated with mental illness. PACE provides mutual aid/peer support and systemic advocacy.

  • Mental Illness Support Network (345-6805) - Operated by PACE, this is a consumer driven organization which works to build positive attitudes toward people with mental illness and to promote self-confidence and acceptance. Initiatives that promote recovery and wellness are undertaken. Mental Illness Support Network serves Geraldton (807)854-2649, Manitouwadge (807)826-4442, and Marathon (807)229-0357. Their offices provide a central resource for information regarding mental illness and advocate for the rights and freedoms of persons with mental illness.

Schizophrenia Society of Ontario

(767-1640) - Increases the awareness of schizophrenia, educates families, professionals, and those with schizophrenia and the general public. Advocates with the governments for increased funding for brain research and improved services. Also raises money for research.

St. Joseph's Care Group

(343-2431) - Offers the following services:

  • Mental Health Services:

    • Personal Development Centre - Offers treatment to adults experiencing anxiety or mental health issues such as depression or stress related problems, self-esteem issues, and compromise coping strategies.
    • Psychogeriatric Services - A thirty-seven bed secure environment for treatment and care of individuals over 65 years of age experiencing cognitive impairment, dementia, or psychiatric disorders.
    • Eating Disorder Program - Comprehensive assessment, individual and nutritional counselling and psycho-education for youths and adults with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and other significant eating disorders.
  • Addictions Services:

    • Balmoral Centre - A fifteen bed, non-medical detoxification unit serving both men and women (ages 16 & up). Provides medical referral when necessary and begins the assessment process.

    • The Sister Margaret Smith Centre Adult Services - Offers residential and nonresidential programs (age 18 & up) for those directly experiencing harmful effects of drug and alcohol use. Outpatient assessment, counselling and support for individuals with gambling issues also offered.

    • Community Outreach Team (Older Adult Mental Health) - A community based team providing a range of services to older adults and their caregivers, including assessment, planning, intervention, education, and support.

    • Youth Services - Intensive drug & alcohol treatment program (ages 13 - 17). Residential day, outpatient and outreach services are provided depending on needs of the youth.

  • Wesway (623-2353) - Is a local, non-profit organization that provides personalized respite services to people from birth to old age with special needs. Wesway provides respite alternatives utilizing both volunteers and staff and by offering both "in-home" and "out-of-home" respite. Their Personalized Services include: Host Families, Respite Homes, At-home Choices, and Community Friends.
