ATTENTION INCOMING STUDENTS FALL 2011
The College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) has accepted the new National Competencies and Practice Standards. These new standards and competencies will be included on the National Dental Hygiene exam beginning in 2013 and therefore impact anyone entering a Dental Hygiene Program in Ontario in the fall of 2011.
As a result of these changes, a review of the Dental Hygiene Program learning outcomes and competencies is under way. Although we have not completed the review of current competencies for the Dental Hygiene Program, we do expect that program changes will occur.
These changes may impact the program length, course content and tuition assessed for the program in order to ensure all required learning is achieved and meets the New National Competencies and Practice Standards.
Stay tuned for more information as it is available.
Dental hygienists are registered dental health professionals who serve the public in the prevention of oral diseases and promotion of healthy lifestyles. If working with people to obtain optimal oral health appeals to you, a career in Dental Hygiene may be for you.
You will work directly with the patient, providing dental hygiene treatment and information related to the prevention of diseases and disorders of the teeth and mouth. If you enjoy caring for and helping others, in promoting a healthy environment, then this profession could be suitable for you!
Upon graduation and successful completion of a national board examination, you will be prepared for work in private practice, community health, hospital dental clinics, public health units, federal agencies, sales, consulting and specialty dental practices.
