Ontario Colleges Program Code: 0156

The Educational Assistant program prepares individuals to work under the supervision of a professional in a variety of educational settings with school-aged children of diverse abilities and backgrounds. Graduates will understand their role as members of a multi-disciplinary team and be able to perform the specific duties of an educational assistant in an ethical and professional manner while maintaining a safe environment. The program gives students specific strategies and techniques for implementing the individual education plan (IEP), utilizing assistive technologies, and supporting academic, physical, social and behavioural development. Graduates also will be proficient in working with students with a wide range of exceptionalities including learning, behavioural, communication, physical, developmental, and intellectual exceptionalities. Practical experience through three field placements facilitates the application of the theory and knowledge learned in the classroom.
- The Educational Assistant program will welcome a new cohort every two years. The next cycle begins fall 2014.
- The Educational Assistant program is available in Thunder Bay, at regional campuses throughout Northwestern Ontario, at Contact North sites and elearning sites throughout Ontario and in your home!
