The recent changes to the Ontario's Drinking Water Legislation and the unfortunate events that led to these changes have had a ripple effect, not only with respect to the treatment and distribution of potable water in Ontario, but on a large number of things we, as Canadians, take for granted (fresh water resources both surface and subsurface, sewage collection and treatment, landfills, etc.). It has created the need for an ever-increasing environmentally conscience workforce. The Environmental Engineering Technology program at Confederation College provides students with the knowledge and skills to become part of this environmentally conscience workforce. The staff are very knowledgeable and up-to-date on current environmental issues and concerns. The course, which combines hands-on field experience with classroom education, is a good mix of mathematics and environmental sciences. Being a graduate of the Confederation College's Environmental Engineering Technology program has not only given me the tools to get where I am today but has also given me the tools to get where I want to go tomorrow

I discovered Confederation College and the Environmental Engineering Technology program over the Internet. Upon looking at the program outline, I decided that this was exactly what I was looking for in a long-term career. When I first came to Confederation College, I was someone that needed direction in my life. After three of the greatest years of my life attending the Environmental Engineering Technology program my new and improved life began. I made some life-long relationships and worked with some very influential people, namely my college professors. My time at Confederation College has been rewarding and challenging and it has made me a stronger, more determined individual

The Environmental Engineering Technology program at Confederation College is multi-disciplinary and provides students with a broad background in many areas of the environmental field; including water, air and soil. An important part of the program is developing a working understanding of the Federal and Provincial legislation that regulates activities in this field. The practical knowledge and experience I acquired as a student in this program enabled me to obtain a number of contracts in various facets of government

The Environmental Engineering and Technology program of Confederation College provides its students with the opportunity to gain a wide variety of experiences and knowledge in the environmental field on account of the broad curriculum and opportunities for related summer employment. I, myself, obtained summer work managing the College's Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System as well as with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, gaining experience in aquatic and fisheries fieldwork. Upon graduation from the College, I had an extensive range of directions in which I could choose to follow. The articulation agreements that the College holds with other educational institutions across Canada interested me and, in twelve months, I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science from Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia. I returned to Thunder Bay to instruct at the College and am presently working for the Ontario Ministry of the Environment as the Northern Region's Permit to Take Water Coordinator. The Environmental Engineering and Technology program of Confederation College started me on an interesting and exciting path through the environmental field and has provided me with the skills and experiences needed to be successful in furthered education and career options

The Environmental Technician program at Confederation College has been designed in such a way as to provide its graduates with both hands-on fieldwork and classroom-based learning. The education I gained in the environmental program has been extremely beneficial by providing me with the proper skills and knowledge needed in order to be successful in my related work, as well as by providing me with the opportunity to further my education. During my summer breaks from school, my education in the environmental field helped me in acquiring work as a Fisheries Technician with the Upper Great Lakes Management Unit of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. Utilizing the articulation agreement between the College and Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia, I completed my Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science in twelve months. This undergraduate degree enabled me to enrol in the one year Bachelor of Education Degree program at Lakehead University. My experiences and knowledge gained from all three institutions has also aided me with employment in the environmental education field as an instructor and a program developer for the Environmental Technician program. I would like to thank the College and my instructors for the wonderful education and experiences they provided for me while taking the program

The Environmental Engineering Technology program at Confederation College was not only fun, interesting and enjoyable, but it also gave me the skills and knowledge I needed to land a great job within 6 months of graduation. As an Environmental Management Systems consultant, I use the content of many of the courses I took while attending Confederation College everyday. Working with Canadian and Ontario regulations on an almost daily basis and completing waste audits and compliance audits for clients are just two examples of how the hands-on approach to teaching at Confederation College has really helped develop skills needed for real-life situations

The Environmental Engineering Technology program provided me with the technical and practical experience that employers are looking for in the environmental field. I would recommend the program to anyone interested in joining the environmental workforce
Neely S. Mosley (nee Harding)
Because of my educational experiences from the Environmental Technology program at Confederation College, I have been able to achieve my long-term career goals in a relatively short amount of time. I was able to obtain a position in the environmental field during each of the intermediate summers and immediately following graduation. I began working on a contract basis, but have just recently attained a full-time position in Industrial Water and Wastewater Processes.
The combination of lectures and practical hands-on experience gave me an advantage over other graduates from similar programs. This program gives graduates a feeling of self-confidence when job hunting, as they know they can be very valuable assets to their employers.
Your experience at the College comes with good classmates to study, relax and socialize with, patient and helpful instructors to provide you with the necessary knowledge and assistance, and a team of career services people to help match your interests with the needs of the industries, and, in turn, the most important'€¦get a job!
In my opinion, if you have an interest in any of the courses offered in this program, enrolling in the Environmental Technology program would be the smartest thing you could do for yourself.
