Tuition Deferral Policy 2012-13
Students who have applied for funding through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) will automatically have their tuition deferred.
NOTE: Tuition deferrals will be issued in two levels.
Tuition Deferral Level 1
In order to be eligible for a tuition deferral Level 1 you must meet the following conditions:
1) Confirmed your seat. (only applicable to students entering into the first year of a program)
2) Submitted an application for OSAP funding at least 1 week prior to your tuition fee deadline due date. The college will electronically confirm with the ministry that an application has been submitted.
If you have done both of the above, your seat will be held for you. If you have not, you may lose your seat.
Tuition Deferral Level 2
In order to be eligible to web register for your classes in August, you must meet the following conditions:
1) Have an OSAP application that is complete and has no outstanding issues (i.e. missing documentation, restrictions, etc.)
2) NEW - authorized the redirection of fees from your OSAP application. (If, on your
application you checked the box “ Don’t pay fees on my behalf” you will NOT be considered for a Level 2 tuition deferral
3) NEW – The National Student Loan Service Centre must have your Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (MSFAA) form on file.
4) Have a total OSAP assessed award that is equal to or greater than your outstanding debt to the college plus the $50.00 deferral fee. This may include, but is not limited to, tuition fees, prior outstanding balances, etc.
- If all of the above conditions are met, then you will be given a Level 2 deferral and allowed to web register in August
- A service fee of $50.00 will be charged for this deferral service.
NOTE:
- If the 2nd condition is not met, but you wish to be considered for a tuition deferral, then you must submit a “ Change of Information” form, to the Financial Aid Office, requesting the statement “ Don’t pay fees on my behalf” be reversed and you are approving the ministry to use a portion of your OSAP funding to pay, on your behalf, your tuition and compulsory fees directly to the college. The Change of Information form can be found by clicking Here
- If the 4th condition is not met, then you have a shortfall. You must pay the difference between your outstanding debt and your total OSAP award. In shortfall situations, the $50 deferral fee must be pre-paid as part of the shortfall payment. You will be notified via email what your shortfall amount is.
New – The college will be collecting any previous account balances plus 60% of your total tuition fees for the current year from your first installment of OSAP. The remainder of your tuition and account balance will be collected from your second installment of OSAP funding.
New - You will be notified via your college email when you have been issued a level 1 or level 2 tuition deferral.
