Andrew Woods awarded "Canada's Top Amateur Pilot 2012"

Andrew Woods, a second year Flight Management student at Confederation College's Aviation Centre of Excellence was selected as Canada's Top Amateur Pilot for 2012 in the Webster Memorial Trophy Competition, held in Ottawa this year. Andrew completed against 9 finalists from across the country. Andrew qualified to enter the national competition based on the particularly high score he received during his Transport Canada "flight test" as part of his training at Confederation. His Flight Test Examiner (Sherri Appleton, nee Kantymir - also a former recipient of this award) recognized Andrew's potential and recommended he study and train hard to go for this top award. Confederation College will have you flying in first semester! Our specialized training includes private and commercial flight training with additional units on "floats and skis". Our fleet of Cessna 172s and Cessna 180 is continuously being updated, with some of the most advanced technologies found on board. You will also get your hands on some of the most advanced simulators in the country.

This program has its roots in the remote northern climate of bush flying under extreme conditions. It sets the standard for job opportunities all over the world, from the freedom of bush pilot work in the north, to earning your stripes with major airlines. Our School of Aviation is located at Thunder Bay International Airport, with classroom learning right next to the runway.
