Originally established at Lakehead University in 1949 and moved to Confederation College in 2002, the Forest Ecosystem Management Technician Program offers the education and experience you will need in the challenging field of resource management. The important task of understanding, utilizing, protecting, and improving our renewable natural resources will secure the socio-economical and ecological future of Canada.
In the two-year Forest Ecosystem Management Technician Program, you'll acquire the theoretical knowledge and technical skills you need to work effectively in a variety of disciplines in the natural resource sector. You will be prepared for a technically competent position in the areas of forest harvesting, forest resource conservation, forest management, compliance monitoring, silviculture, research support, recreation, project development with Aboriginal communities and eco and adventure tourism.
The two paid co-op placements are an intrical educational component to the program. Students will make a strong connection of in class studies to a practical work application. The work experience gives students hands on training in a real work environment that will better prepare them for the work force and increase employability. The programs long established history and faculty attain a strong connection with industry and government providing a large variety of placement opportunities allowing students to venture in many different career paths. Confederation College supplies a job connection for assistance in your placement and faculty are available for guidance and consultation in your career goals. For many students the co-op is a good opportunity to earn money while furthering their education and skill set.
A unique feature of the program will be the integration of aboriginal approaches to forest & land resource development, in addition to a business/entrepreneurial focus & applied delivery.
