Testimonials

Tessa MacKay
After completing the International Business Program, I found myself as the "Promotion and Marketing Project Manager" for an apparel company, with a twist. Me to We Style is a social enterprise that donates 50% of its profits to its partner charity, Free the Children. This is my dream job.  The International Business program provided me not only access to the company (through work placement) but the skills and expertise be successful in it.

I use many of the logistics and exporting skills that I learned in the program when shipping large apparel orders to the U.S. and abroad.  When I began with the company, there was very limited knowledge in this area and I have since been able to develop a standard program that outlines all international shipment requirements.  This program deals with the development of commercial invoices, certificates of origin, standard HS codes and our adherence to the NAFTA regulations!  This in turn has begun to save the company money, which, in today's economy, is always welcomed.  I have since assumed a role in marketing and have been assessing potential new  international markets.  I have also been planning and attending many trade shows, in the U.S. and Canada.  I am actually going to be attending the show that I researched while studying in the program - Expo West in Anaheim, CA.

All in all this program has positioned me on the path to a career that I have always wanted. I feel confident in the skill set that I have developed as a result of the program - it really did prepare me well for this job.

The International Business program was an amazing experience. It made me excited about learning, I gained so much confidence in myself and what I have to offer in the workplace. The program opened my eyes to the opportunities that exist all over the world... I am comfortable now talking about current events, I am more active in what's going on in the community. I just feel more aware of the world around me. The program involves a lot of hard work- and although I'm sure I complained about it all at the time, it was definitely worth it and I'd do it all over again in a second.

The International Business program at the college changed my outlook on life.  I never thought I would have started a career with a great company before I even graduated!  In my job as junior buyer at Bombardier, I utilise almost every aspect of the program in my day-to-day duties.  I think it is a great program for anyone '€“ the world is global; businesses have to have employees with a global mindset.  This program will provide that.

Huan Wang, Graduate 2006

My name is Huan Wang, an international student from China. It has been more than three years since I left China. When I look back today, I believe I have made the best choice to start from Confederation College.

I have been awarded the Ontario Certificate in International Business & Trade by Confederation College in June 2006. The learning experience in Confederation College provided me precious opportunities to work with diverse teams and build connection with local community, which developed strong team work skills and communication skills. Further, the harmonious environment in the college made there feel just like home, especially for us international students. Whenever I was in need, no matter what the problem was, people around me always tried to help me out.

After the full preparation in Confederation College, I moved forward to get into the Master's program in Lakehead University. This May I am going to get my Master's degree in Economics. I attribute all today's success to the good start in Confederation College. I would never forget the time I spent in Confederation College.

What a difference an email can make! I was hired by a logistics
company (Cole International) to be their representative at the port of Thunder Bay. Within two weeks I was promoted to logistics coordinator in Alberta! The components for a wind energy project were arriving from Germany by vessel to Thunder Bay, and then were loaded and shipped by truck to Taber, Alberta. I was hired to oversee the clearance and transfer of the shipment from ship to truck. Enercon, the German energy company, sent two representatives to the port in Thunder Bay. They met with me and within two weeks I was promoted and at the receiving end of the shipments in Alberta!

The program at Confederation College is widely recognized by individuals from Canada, and abroad as a quality program that produces knowledgeable and well-trained individuals. My success has demonstrated that you can do good work once you've graduated, regardless of where you come from (in my case, Dryden)

Logistics is a great career option for graduates of the International Business programs at Confederation College. I am confident in saying that it was lessons and skills taught to me at the college, that got me where I am today.

. . . for me it is an honor to be a graduate from your program. It has helped me a lot to start my career; believe me, without the International Business and Trade Program I wouldn't have gotten this job. Actually some companies considered my resume because of I have a bachelor's and a diploma, also for knowledge of both languages (Spanish & English). Something that I really like about this job is the opportunity to apply everything that I learned at your program. When I am here doing some work and my boss ask me something, I know what web pages or where to call for more information (CBSA,CFIA, TFOC etc...). I have to apply all my knowledge of IB, everything related to importing and exporting, meetings, doing business with different cultures, reports, all the web pages that we saw in class etc. I dont have words to thank you for all the knowledge and support that you gave me. Thanks :)
