The Library provides service to all regional, distance and international students enrolled in our programs. Students may access the electronic library collections and request research assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Access
Who can use the College Library? If you are a student enrolled in a course offered in your community outside of Thunder Bay, or if you are enrolled in a Distance Education course, you will have access to full library and information services.
How do I get a library card? When you register for a College program, you are assigned a student number. Regional Campus offices will ensure that students on their campuses receive a photo id cards. Enquire at your campus if you do not receive an id card. Distance students may not receive an id card, but remember that to access library resources, your 14-digit ID number is "22663" followed by your student number. If you have any questions, please contact us.
What is a PIN and why do I need one? PIN stands for "Personal Identification Number". Your PIN is a 4 digit number that is unique to you alone. You need a PIN in order to use the Library's databases from home. Submit a Get my PIN request form!
Books
How do I find books? If you are looking for books, go to the Library website. Under "Find", click on "Books, Videos". This will allow you to search the Library catalogue. You may search by keyword, author, title or subject. For further information, see "Remote Access for Regional...". Need help? Send your request to the Library via email.
How long is the loan period for books? Books may be borrowed for 3 weeks and you may renew them twice. You can renew material as long as it is before the due date. Renew by phone (807-475-6219), by email, or online through the "My Account " feature available on the Library catalogue.
How do I get my books? If you are a student at a College campus, the books will be sent to your campus office with your name on the package. The books can be returned through the office at your regional campus. If you are a Distance Education student, the books will be mailed directly to your home address with return mailing instructions.
How do I get books that aren't in the Library? Books that aren't available in our College Library can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
Periodicals
How do I find articles from the Library? Go to the Library website. Under "Find", click on "Articles & Databases". Follow the instructions for "How to connect from Home".
How do I order articles if the Library doesn't have the journal? Articles that aren't available through our Library may be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
Videos
How do I find videos? Go to the Library website. Under "Find", click on "Books, Videos". Click on the "Advanced Search" link. You may enter your search terms using keywords, author or title. Under "Format" select "Audiovisual items". All results will be audiovisual material.
How do I order videos for a presentation? When you have found a video you wish to use for a presentation, copy down the call number and title. Send your request, including dates needed, title and call number of the item to our main Library Desk via email!
Services
Where can I get Reference help? To speak directly to a staff member, call (807) 475-6219 during regular library hours, or leave a message after hours. Virtual reference help is available online through AskON, a chat reference service. If you prefer, you can submit an email request to our main Library Desk.
Where do I find some suggested material for my program? Check out the program specific LibGuides available on our Library website!.
How can I talk to the Library contact for Distance and Regional students? If you wish to speak to the Library Consultant for Distance/Regional students, please call (807) 475-6639. Leave your name and phone number and the staff member will call back within 24 hours. If you require immediate assistance, please call the Library's main line at (807) 475-6219.
