Beyond the regularly scheduled postsecondary and apprenticeship training is the highly successful First Nations Natural Resources Youth Employment Program (FNNRYEP). The intent is to eventually offer the program across Ontario and encourage participation, not only in the forestry sector, but also in other natural resources sectors such as mining and energy. Youth are encouraged to pursue employment in forestry jobs at home and to further their post-secondary education. To a large extent, the success of the program is due to the collaboration that includes the following partners: 4 forest industry organizations – Bowater, Weyerhaeuser, Trus Joist and Tembec; 4 lead First Nations – Eagle Lake, Fort William, Mattagami and Wabaseemoong ( who act as the lead for their 31 affiliated communities); Outland Reforestation Inc., and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
