Broadcast Television Production Students Will Work at APTN for the 2010 Olympics

(Thunder Bay, February, 1 2010) -

Five of Confederation College Broadcast Television Production students will have a real Olympic experience this February ...

The five students, who are currently in the fourth semester of the two year broadcasting program will apply their skills for one month with Canada’s 4th largest broadcaster, Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), and support their coverage of  the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

On February 3, 2010 Holly Alexandruk, Taylor Best, Simon Paquette, Jordan Milani and Andrea Kostanowicz will embark on a road trip to Winnipeg, Manitoba where they will work as Media Center Shot Lister, Edit Suite Associate Director, and TV Production Assistant for APTN, a sponsor of the 2010 Olympics

“We’re proud of our students. They put so much energy into their education it is great to see them rewarded with such a wonderful opportunity and work experience" said Michele McManus, Broadcast Television Production Program coordinator at Confederation College.

For many years Confederation College Broadcasting students have completed their 4 week field placement with APTN and this excellent relationship has resulted in Confederation students filling five of the eight positions available. Students were selected through a process that included provision of a full resume, biography and telephone interview with a freelancer who specifically hires for the Olympics.

“I have always loved sports and the Olympics so getting to work this dream job is an opportunity of a lifetime,” said Holly Alexandruk who will be a TV Production Assistant at APTN.  “I always wanted to work in the Broadcasting industry.  It was a dream that I wasn't sure was attainable, but I decided to go for it because amazing opportunities can come your way if you believe you can do it.”

“This is an incredible opportunity, we're being paid to work in the industry before we've even graduate, and that it's for the Olympics makes it even more intense and exciting,” said Simon Paquette who will be an Edit Suite Associate Director at APTN.

The students will begin their experience on February 7 and continue until February 28, 2010.  During that time Confederation College and the community can follow their progress on their twitter page http://twitter.com/ConfederationBT and Facebook page: Confederation College Broadcasters Olympic Journey.
