Leslie Sutherland RN, BScN, MEd,    Program Coordinator - College Campus

Leslie Sutherland  

Hi – I am Leslie Sutherland.  I teach in the third year of the program and I’m also the program coordinator at the college campus.  I love teaching third year students and introducing them to pathophysiology and the associated nursing care for specific disease processes.  I have taught these courses for a long time because I love them. I have taken students to almost every clinical area in the hospital setting.  Most recently, I supervised students on 2C, the cardiac step down unit at TBRHSC.  Now I am the course leader for N3600 - the medical surgical clinical course.  It has always amazed me at how much growth occurs in our students during third year.  I feel it is my responsibility to prepare you for your fourth year preceptorship experiences.   I believe we are both active participants in your learning and by working together you can become confident in your nursing knowledge.  Nursing is a “hands on” profession.  A sound knowledge base will make the application of theory to clinical much more meaningful.

Welcome to nursing at Confederation College! My name is Carine Gallagher and I teach in Year 1 and Year 2 and am the coordinator for the regional program. I have been involved with baccalaureate nursing since 1980, participating in classroom, laboratory and clinical practice settings. In addition to teaching responsibilities, I am also involved in scholarship activities related to health human resources, leadership and long term care issues. I hope you will enjoy your time at the college and feel free to drop by my office which is located in the Shuniah building on the second floor, Room 285.

Dr. Sally Dampier RN, BScN, MMedSc, SRM, DNP

Welcome to the college campus. My name is Sally Dampier and I teach in the 2nd and 4th year of the collaborative BScN Nursing program. I began my nursing career in Canada, with a short spell up in Moose Factory on Hudson Bay, before heading off to Scotland to study Midwifery, and staying 26 years. In Britain, I continued my studies in Neonatal Intensive Care, ICU, Education and obtained a Masters degree in Medical Science specializing in Children's Nursing. My teaching and research interests include leadership, scholarship and child health. I currently serve on the executive of the RNAO Provincial Nurse Educator Interest Group and the Editorial Board of Nurse Researcher. I am a student myself completing my Doctorate of Nursing in Child Health. Have a great year and enjoy your journey as a student nurse.

Nancy Fleming RN, HBScN, MA(Ed) Program Coordinator

Greetings and welcome!  I am Nancy Fleming, a Professor in the nursing programs at Confederation College. I began my teaching career in 1988, working in a variety of nursing and clinical practice. As an RN, I specialized in all aspects of obstetrics. My area of expertise is maternal infant theory and practice and I have enjoyed taking students to the obstetrical floor for clinical experiences and have many stories to relate.

I am pleased to be teaching you the maternal-infant theory and lab courses this fall, as well as the second year skills theory course. As a life-long learner and holder of a Masters Degree with an “Adult Learning Specialty”, I love to ignite the fire for students and see learning take place.  My interests lie with student success and maximizing your educational experiences.

Jan Seeley RN, BScN, MEd, MScN

Hi, my name is Jan Seeley. Currently, I teach in years 3 and 4 of the BScN program. My primary teaching areas are mental health and evidence-base (research). Mental Health introduces students to the complexity associated with caring for a person experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence-base courses encourage the students to understand how evidence supports and enhances clinical practice. Professionally, I have practiced in several acute care and community areas.  Every five years, I take a professional leave of absence and immerse myself in either clinical practice or academia.   Besides teaching, I am actively involved in interprofessional education and practice, research, committee work and as a health care consultant.  This winter, I will be taking a leave of absence to complete my  Doctorate of Nursing Practice.

Maya Angelou stated “I’ve learned that people forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. As a nursing graduate, you will facilitate people to feel empowered, advocating for them to take control of their health.

Dr. Lynne Thibeault NP-PHC, BScN, MEd, DNP

I am Lynne Thibeault and would like to welcome you to the Collaborative BScN program! I have been a Nurse for 30 years with most of my experience being in the emergency department. I also have over 20 years of teaching experience which includes teaching nursing at all levels (RPN, RN diploma and degree, Post RN and Post RPN certificate programs, Nurse Practitioner as well as Paramedicine). I also remain current in the field by nursing in the Emergency department and working as a Nurse Practitioner as a local Community Health Centre. I have just completed a Doctorate in Nursing Practice at St. Scholastica where my my project was lthe development and opening of a Nurse Practitioner led Clinic in Thunder Bay. I look forward to facilitating your learning process and hope you enjoy your experience here at the College!
