Thank you for considering the Lakehead University and Confederation College Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. We are excited about the prospect of offering this collaborative program. Over this next year, we will be updating our websites to keep you informed of the latest information. Please check our websites regularly.
Nursing Education at Two Campuses
Baccalaureate education will prepare you to practice in complex environments (hospital to community settings), enhance career changes and provide a foundation for further studies at Masters and Doctoral levels in nursing. The collaboration between the University and the College in the delivery of the Nursing Program is intended to provide the student with the expertise from both groups of faculty and prepare the graduate for the challenges of the future.
Nursing Jobs Do Exist!
Many of last year's graduates are employed in Nursing. The Canadian Nurses Association is anticipating the nursing shortage to worsen in the near future. Jobs are available at home and abroad. Graduates do extremely well on the national registration examinations which allows the successful graduate to practice anywhere in Canada, and many states in the U.S. A career in nursing offers wonderful opportunities to travel, to move within the profession, and to advance within the profession.
Nursing is What We Do!
As a student in this program, you will experience nursing in our labs and classrooms and in a variety of clinical settings. You will take courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Psychology, Mathematics, and a variety of elective courses throughout your four years. These courses will increase your depth of understanding when caring for your patients/clients. Small classes, clinical and lab groups provide opportunities for you to know your classmates and teachers and enhances your learning.
Set Your Goals
In the last year of the program you can "create" your clinical experiences. Students have gone to Thailand, England, Haiti, all across Canada and the United States, Zimbabwe, Finland, Scotland, Ireland, and many other countries. Students have worked in hospitals, community agencies, hospice centres and long term care facilities. Graduates currently work in all of these settings, have continued their education, and work in top nursing administrative jobs in the health care field and in nursing education programs around the country.
