Outcomes:
There is still a major nursing shortage predicted due to the aging registered nurse population (Canadian Nurses Association, 2009). As a nurse, you will have the opportunity to work provincially, nationally and internationally in diverse practice settings. In Ontario, the New Graduate Initiative was implemented by the government to ensure that every new graduate has the opportunity to work.
As well, graduates from the program have the opportunity to further their education. Obtaining a Nurse Practitioner designation and a Master and/or a Doctorate degree in Nursing allows the nurse to work in independent practice, educational institutes and research facilities.
The salary for a full-time Registered Nurse in Thunder Bay in the acute care hospital begins at approximately $57,000 to a maximum of $83,000. As a union member you will be under a collective agreement that includes such benefits as pension, dental, eye care, working condition, safety issues and many other benefits.
