Constable Selection

In Ontario, approximately 85% of the police agencies (other than the RCMP) use the Constable Selection System.   You should check with the agency that you wish to work for to confirm their requirements.

The first step is to obtain a Certificate of Results.
There are two (2) agencies who are licensed to issue the Certificate of Results (COR).  

They are:

The Certificate of Results (COR) is valid for three (3) years (except for the Prep test which must be renewed every six months).

Before you enter into the COR testing you should conduct a personal inventory to ensure you meet the following mandates.   

You must :

  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • hold a valid driver's licence
  • possess a First Aid (standard) Certificate
  • possess CPR to Basic Rescuer standard
  • be 18 years of age or older
  • have successfully completed four (4) years of secondary school education
  • meet the vision requirement
  • meet the hearing requirement
  • not have a criminal record
  • be in good medical condition

Prior to the interview, the following tests will be conducted to obtain the COR.

  • Police Analytical Thinking Inventory (PATI)
  • Written Communication Test (WCT)
  • Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP)
  • Behavioral Personnel Assessment Device for Police (B-Pad)

After obtaining the Certificate of Results (COR) you then apply to the police agency. Contact one of the two above agencies to make an appointment for the COR. The cost is $294.00.
