What is a Dual Credit Program?
Students can take “College Now” courses with an opportunity to earn credits that count toward both a secondary school and
college diploma or certificate. Dual Credits let students “experience” college courses while still in secondary school.
What is the benefit of “College Now”?
Dual credit courses engage students in exposure to college programs, setting and culture, and support a smooth transition
from secondary to postsecondary education. Students are provided additional choices in course selection through College
Now.
Evidence has shown that success in dual credit programs has provided greater likelihood of graduation success.
Who is it for?
* To be eligible for a Dual Credit program students must be:
• 18 years old or over, in graduating year
• 17 years old in graduating year (with parental consent)
• working toward on Ontario Secondary School Diploma
• registered in a minimum of one high school credit in their home school
• approved by the School Principal
Intended for a Secondary School Student who:
• Is interested in earning secondary school and Confederation College credits simultaneously?
• Would like to make the transition from secondary school to College easier?
• Would like to learn more about the College environment and get a head start on career preparation?
• Would like to learn skills that can be used throughout your life?
• Would like to explore your career opportunities?
• Would like to learn in an adult environment?
Students enrolled in College Now will:
- not pay for tuition or students fees
- be provided with transportation to the college
- will have full access to the College Fitness Centre for the semester
- will have access to all library, computer and e-mail services
Course Descriptions
Students may choose up to 3 courses. If 2 or more courses are chosen, 1 of those must be Making the Grade – GE 113.
Notes:
- Each of the following college courses will count not only as a college credit but also as a high school full credit course. - Taking a college course once a week in the afternoons (12:30-3:30 pm) for the semester is equivalent to taking a high school course every day for a period.

MAKING THE GRADE – GE 113
This course will provide you with the tools you need to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes for building a successful future. You will learn to set lifelong learning goals, enhance your communication skills, appreciate diversity, manage time and stress pressures, and improve study and thinking skills. “Making the Grade” is a general education course which counts as an elective credit for the majority of programs at Confederation College
Time: Mondays 12:30 – 3:30 pm
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGE EDITING1 - MM 103
In this course, the student will learn to use the camera as a visualization tool. Students will learn to observe more accurately, to develop imagination, and to express a theme or subject more effectively with photography.Through a series of exercises, students will gain an understanding of the expressive potential of photography, the potential and limits of their own vision, how meaning is derived from visual imagery, how the images can infl uence the viewer’s perception of reality, and how visual processes can be sharpened. Students will learn to practice the techniques used, to manipulate the images in Adobe Photoshop to achieve the best possible quality for print and screen

BAKING AND PASTRY ARTS – CU 130
Successful completion will able the student to demonstrate basic professional baking techniques and a working knowledge of baking fundamentals for ala carte and banquet settings. The course content will cover yeast breads, quick breads, pies, tarts, piping dough’s (and techniques), sponge based pastries, custard, creams, choux paste products and puff pastry products.
Time: Thursdays 12:30 – 3:30 pm
TECHNOLOGICAL STUDIES II – TP 155
This course is designed to introduce the students to a variety of skilled trades. The students will have the opportunity to spend one third of the semester (5 weeks) in each of the following trade areas; carpentry, welding and motive powers. Through a combination of the study of introductory theory and practical experience, the student will gain the background necessary to proceed with further study of technical content
