Turning Up the Heat!

It's November 1st and just past midterm - the time of year I see students who are 'feeling the heat' and some feeling 'under the gun'. With college courses in full swing, assignments and tests piling up, it's important to keep up with the workload and stay on top of your marks.

Make your college education a priority. If you need help, ask for it. There are many student services here to assist you, including the ombuds office.

When you need help in solving a situation, see Kim Morgan, ombudsperson:

Note: You can expect a response to your email or phone message within 24 hours, Monday through Thursday. If you have a reason for meeting off campus or outside regular office hours, this can be arranged.

I didn't know we had that on campus!

The ombuds office provides a confidential service to help solve problems you may be facing. Whether it is a grade issue, code of conduct or student rights concern, the ombuds service should be able to help you out. This student service is funded 50/50 by SUCCI and the College.

The ombudsperson is Kim Morgan who is available for appointments or walk-in visits.

Summer Studies Program in Chile – Great Opportunity for Students

Our Chilean partner, INACAP, is again offering a wonderful “study-abroad” opportunity to Confederation students enrolled in a full time, post-secondary program. This four week study program, which will take place in May 2011, will accept up to 15 students. It provides an opportunity for students to study Spanish and topics related to Chilean culture and business.  Successful completion of the program will provide students with two transfer credits and an international experience of a lifetime.  INACAP University has more than 80,000 students and campuses throughout Chile; the Summer Studies Program will take place in its Santiago campus.   Approximate cost for the entire program is $3,000.00 (including travel and accommodation).  INACAP is not charging any tuition fees.

Application forms are available at the International Education Centre or from our website   http://www.confederationc.on.ca/internationalstudents/opportunitiesabroad

Application deadline is February 15, 2011. The program is best suited for responsible, mature students with strong recommendations from their coordinators.

Students can also apply for a travel grant of $1,250 to help offset some of the costs.  A separate application is required but both forms can be submitted in the same envelope.  Application deadline for the OIEOS travel grant is also February 15, 2011.  Note: the international travel grant is not restricted to travel to Chile, and is available to cover any approved international study abroad activity which is at least four weeks in length and is initiated before March 31, 2011

Application packages can be dropped off to the International Education Centre, Room 251, to the attention of  Maritta Polowick.  Maritta is also available for student presentations, to explain more about these and other international opportunities.  Please call her at 475-6400 to book an appointment.
